Job title
Permit to Work Coordinator
Position Context:
To oversee and ensure that maintenance and project work/activities are conducted in a safe and efficient manner, by utilising the permit to work system and /or appropriate procedures.
Detailed Understanding of all aspects the permit to work system, i.e. hot work, pressure jetting, confined space entry, isolation of energy sources, life critical guard and working at heights
Close working relationship with EHS department helping to deliver the site’s EHS Annual Operating Plan where appropriate
Permit coordinator is not expected to issue all permits, but is expected to maximise use of all resources
Main tasks :
Issue permits (high/low energy hot work, pressure jetting and confined space entry)
Monitor the status of PTW’s and drive the use of the Permit Tracker so it provides a real time view of permit status on site
Monitor/maintain awareness of daily permit activities across the site and intervene in the event of any potential activity conflicts
Complete permit audits, observations, checks, interactions and coaching as required
Carry out relevant audits such as 90 Day Red Tag Master, Life Critical Guard, PTW audits, individual permit checks and document findings
Understand and comply with all EH&S processes, policies, procedures and programs
Possess detailed knowledge of the PTW system and provide technical advice on this subject and associated standards
Provide training around the permit to work system and associated standards
Conduct validation and competency assessments for permit issuers, as required by the Company training system.
Utilise tools and procedures to comply with Company policies and procedures
Coach plant personnel to resolve EH&S issues around the permit to work system
Work closely with EHS department (dotted line) to drive EHS standards and good behaviours on site
Assist or lead investigations into unplanned events and complete resulting corrective actions
Attend daily activity co-ordination meeting
Conduct monthly permit assessments and where appropriate coach individuals on the permit system
Own and update PTW policies and procedures
Maintain stock of permit to work paperwork and checklists
Co-ordinate permit activities during plant shutdowns and project engineering work
Required skills :
Some professional experience within the Chemical Industry
Understanding of a permit to work system, i.e. hot work, pressure jetting, confined space entry, isolation of energy sources and working at heights
Outstanding approach to personal safety as well as the safety of others
Ability to liaise with personnel at all levels of the organisation
Credible and confident communication skills
Good organisational and planning skills
Ability to work on multiple tasks
Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines with minimal supervision
Good attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent I.T. skills
Must be eligible to work in the UK
