Job title

R&D Chemist M/F/D

Position Context:

Working within Research & Development team reporting to the R&D Team Leader. 

Main tasks :

- Ensure good housekeeping throughout the lab, maintaining high standards of health and safety
- Develop lab scale processes (< 20 L) and work with chemical engineers to scale to manufacturing quantities (vessels ranging from 10-30 m3)
- Prepare detailed technical reports on all R&D work
- Collaborate with quality control team to facilitate the transfer of analytical methodologies
- Effectively contribute to multi-disciplinary teams for the introduction of new chemical processes
- Perform an assessment of reactive chemistries and participate in cross-functional process safety reviews
- Contribute to the training and mentorship of more junior team members
- Support quality assurance and regulatory colleagues in customer service support
 

Required skills :

Required:

- Degree in chemistry
- Good working knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry and associated laboratory skills
- Ability to plan and execute work independently
- Demonstrable project management skills and ability to work with multifunctional teams
- Excellent communication abilities; able to articulate complex technical information to any audience
- Flexible attitude towards the support of industrial manufacturing processes
 

Desirable:

- Higher degree in chemistry or related subject
- Experience working in an industrial lab
- Knowledge of lean six sigma and related operational excellence tools
- Familiarity with analytical techniques for the quantification of low level (ppm/ppb) organic impurities
- Knowledge of quality management systems
- Understanding of HAZOP and LOPA processes
